  • Status

    Ongoing

  • Location New York City

36% of autistic people are unemployed in the US. To support this, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) implements 2 summer programmes that prepare young autistic people for potential careers in the transportation industry including:

1/ Transit Quest, a 5-day intensive camp for youth aged 14-17, focuses on leveraging participants’ interest in trains/transit and help them practice the social & communication skills necessary to succeed in school & work environments. It offers a field trip to an MTA site (train yard or bus depot) or an MTA guest speaker to connect & broaden expertise through direct interaction with MTA staff

2/ Transit Quest 2.0, a 5-day intensive camp for graduates aged 15-21, focuses on job readiness (introduction to jobs through site visits & guest speakers, helping identify areas in the transportation industry that could be a fit). Each day includes an MTA presentation about employees” work & career path.
