In Spain, the timber market crisis and irruption of several pests/diseases have affected chestnut groves while intensive agriculture has led to the decline of some fauna species, desertification, soil & water pollution. Unemployment for people with disability in the forestry sector is also a concern. This project aims to promote natural restoration, conservation awareness & inclusive green labour by reinforcing the production of 2 old chestnut tree varieties in a reserve and enriching biodiversity in an agricultural land.

The key activities of the project include:

1/ Land preparation, fencing & planting of 100 chestnut trees

2/ Plantation of 370 seedlings

3/ Involvement of at risk of social exclusion-groups (Forestry workers) in planting/maintaining works

4/ Development of over 2 volunteering days (40-50 Alstom employees) for fencing, planting 160 native shrubs, restoring, etc

5/ Awareness raising on social media.
