Mexico: Mediating acute water scarcity and contamination issues in rural Guanajuato

  • Status

    Ongoing

  • Location Mexico

The project will focus on installing 15 Rainwater Harvesting Systems (RHS) and implementing intensive community education in Los Ricos de Arriba, a small rural community in Mexico with no access to clean and safe water. Los Ricos is one of roughly 2,800 small villages that dot the high desert landscape in the Upper Rio Laja watershed area of central Mexico.

These families are too high up to receive water from the distant well that serves them and the water that does arrives containing extremely high levels of contaminants (arsenic, fluoride and pathogens) impacting their health.
