Mexico: Mayan guardians of the Melipona bee - Empowerment and sustainable economic reactivation

Rural Mayan women face many issues including: Inequality, illiteracy, no land property, limited access to financing, etc. Project aims to empower indigenous women through the Network of Meliponiculturist Women Producers (eco-friendly honey production) through:

1/ Administrative, financial & organisational training (governance, savings funds, customer relations, marketing, sales)

2/ Access to technical knowledge for Melipona bee care & breeding (training in good practices & product processing)

3/ Management of resources for infrastructure (materials & supplies)

4/ Organisation of business events & product sales

4/ Promotion of youth participation in Melipona honey production (3 workshops on innovation in the Melipona bee business model, meliponiculture impact, link with schools & other stakeholders). This project can also help save a species in danger of extinction & promote biodiversity.
